Maria Jean Canizares, MD is a St. Louis native. She graduated from Parkway North High School in 1990. Originally, she completed her nursing degree, graduating Summa Cume Laude from the former Jewish Hospital School of Nursing in 1994. Realizing in nursing school that her true passion was within medicine and surgery, she decided to become a physician. Therefore, she returned and completed her pre-medical education and Bachelor of Arts in Biology from St. Louis University, where she graduated Magna Cume Laude in 1996, and then also graduated from medical school at Saint Louis University in 2001. While in medical school, Dr. Canizares had a love for surgery, medicine, and cosmetics. Thus, she completed her Internship in Medicine from St. Mary's Health Center in Clayton, Missouri, followed by a residency in dermatology from Washington University, where she served as Chief Resident during her last year of training. She has also published some articles in dermatology and presented several interesting dermatologic cases.

Dr. Canizares is a board-certified dermatologist by the American Academy of Dermatology, and has been in practice since 2007. She specializes in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. She sees all ages of patients, but a parent or guardian must accompany all patients under 18 years of age. Her nursing background and extensive medical and dermatologic training have afforded her with the compassion and skills to take care of your dermatologic needs, whatever they may be.
